Cape Lookout Cruise

My favorite local cruise is to Cape Lookout!

If the weather is right, it is very near cruising in tropical waters with great water visibility.  The beaches inside the Cape and on the Atlantic outside are pristine and we usually experience very pleasant temperatures.  Snorkeling, beach combing, partying with SCOO cruisers, it just doesn’t get much better.  We will have at least one pot luck on the beach or on a SCOO boat and a social or two on the beach.  Unfortunately the lighthouse is still closed for repairs (according to the website) and will reopen next year.

For planning purposes expect slack (low) water at the Morehead City/ Beaufort inlet at 10:30 on the 6th, a good time to head out into the Atlantic for the short trip offshore to Cape Lookout.  Some cruisers may want to head to Beaufort or Morehead City the day before in order to make a leisurely departure on the 6th to take advantage of slack water.  Coming back slack water (low) will be at 1:45pm on the 9th.  The inlet can get pretty challenging at full ebb or flood.  More to follow as cruisers sign up.

Thank you Mark & Marty Fancy for taking over as cruise captains' when the Behre's had to step out.
